As it approaches the end of year 2022, Myanmar watcher's most interested topic is the elections and it became the talk of the town for the locals as well. Elections posess the "Make or Break" dual character. The ongoing mishaps all over the country occured because of the lack of democratic culture coupled with the mismanagement of the 2020 Elections Commission.
Learning from those mistakes could pave the way towards a
democratic nation depending on the attitude of all stake holders.
While the SAC is preparing for the elections as charted in the roadmap, those factions and some countries who is against the SAC declared that they will not recognize the elections. They alleged that it will not be fair and will even put an end to the elections.
In the meantime when the standing Elections Commission Chairman U Thein Soe was invited to the Fifth General Assembly of the World Elections Bodies last October; the so called NUG objected the invitation. We have now realised the parties who preached and lobbied for democracy has been hindering Myanmar's democratic transition.
The ardent support of the West is quite awesome. They are the ones who preached for the demise of dictatorial practices and the emergence of elected governments and yet what they are practicing is totally different.
It is high time for Myanmar to have proper electoral process and participation of all stake holders in this important event.
Naysayer's worried this free and fair elections to happen because they have to recognise the outcome. Some discreet observers even said that " No matter who would be elected, we have to honour the outcome".
We have witnessed some Asian countries where the military happen to be the main architech in their transformation towards a democratic society. Guardianship is a necessity in a nurturing process. Afterall over seventy years of Myanmar's long journey towards this goal, this constitutional process should not be interrupted.
